I started writing silly poems and stories when I was a kid. Books were a meal I devoured with passion from the age of two. They lined the shelves of my room, organized in library style. The fascination of word play led me to study English literature in school, and I earned a BA in that major with a secondary teaching option. My first published “work” was an article about semi-colons for the Learning Center at Long Beach City College.
Instead of teaching college, as was my initial desire, I home schooled my four oldest children. That was infinitely more rewarding. I also taught English in various public and private school settings. My other ventures have included owning a pizza deli and an investments company, coaching gymnastics, tutoring, working as a writer/editor for a ministry, and as a report writer for a private investigation company. Always, the desire to write tugged at my heart. I published a poem, took classes, and started many projects, but never found the time to pursue the dream beyond collecting a dozen rejection letters. I began taking writing seriously in 2011 when I decided to learn my craft and call myself a writer.
I have seven wonderful offspring – four of my own and three I inherited when I married the love of my life, Brendan. Our children range in age from thirty-eight to seventeen. Through the oldest four, we also enjoy nine grandchildren. We make our home in Southwest Florida where the weather is warmer and the sunsets make me think of heaven.
I love playing guitar, photographing my surroundings, reading books, walking on the beach and
playing watching ice hockey. Having fun and being a little silly are imperative to daily life.
People sometimes ask me if I am religious, and I tell them “No, but I love Jesus with all my heart.” Jesus wasn’t about religion as much as he was about loving people. His forgiveness for our sin amazes and humbles me every single day. I hope I portray my love for people more than my judgment of how anyone should live their life. I do believe in boundaries because it is within them that we find so much freedom. The Bible gives us guidelines so we can have an amazingly great life. Following Jesus is an unending adventure of growth and change, with each day moving forward into new life. As a result of agreeing to go his way daily, life just gets better and better, and I’m all about living forward.
